  1. I was surprised at how MINI the amp really is! When it arrived, I was expecting a bigger amp. It does work with the battery (that comes with it). It does have adjustable volume and tone controls, but there is a buzzing sound with the bass notes that are played on my son’s guitar. We bought it for our 11 year old for his birthday and it is okay for him to practice with, but that is all I recommend it for. At least it will be easy to carry and take with him on any trips.

  2. This amp is tiny. It is powered by a single 9 volt battery, and is rated to output 1 watt of power. The sound produced is “tinny” and of very poor quality. This amp is essentially a toy. If this price range is your absolute upper price limit, or if this is a gift for a child who has little interest in taking lessons and improving, then by all means buy one.

However, if you can spend just a little more, and/or if the guitar player who will be using it has any desire to clearly hear and enjoy the results of his or her guitar playing skills, then I STRONGLY recommend an entry-level plug-in amplifier. For example, you might look at any number of the entry-level amps that put out about 10-15 watts of power. They are NOT that much more expensive, and the sound they output is 100%++ better for this price range! What is the point of playing electric guitar if the amp produces sounds that are awful?

In summary, this Fender Mini Deluxe Amp is barely better than a toy. Don’t waste your money. There are other (BETTER) options which cost only a little bit more, and which will be MUCH more rewarding.

Here is a link to an example of a better amplifier investment for the beginner electric guitar player (and there are several others in this price range):

  4. I love this little thing…

I use it to pratice and the kids still tell me to turn it down!!!!

I’m thinking about taking to the streets and playing blues on the corner. It would be the perfect gift for a street musician.

  5. The total size of this amp is 3” by 4”. I was surprised how potable it was. It is great for traveling. You can carry it throughout the house if you want to play in a certain room. I play bass guitar and it works great with my rogue vb100 (which is the best bass there is)! This amp is good enough for a professional musician whether they are playing bass or guitar!
