  1. I purchased this drive just about two weeks ago. After loading my favorite files, the drive worked just fine. I accessed my files on this drive maybe 6 or 7 times in the last two weeks. Then, all of a sudden, three days ago it decided not to show up in the “my computer” screen anymore as the Hitachi Simple Drive Mini, merely as an unformatted, lettered drive. I attempted simple diagnostic checks that the Hitachi web support people recommended and, nothing. Now the drive won’t even register as a lettered drive on my computer. I spent nearly $90.00 on a paperweight. Fortunately, this item is under warranty so I will be promptly returning it for another of its kind. I will not, however, buy another Hitachi product ever again. I’ve never had issues like this with Western Digital or Seagate products.

  2. I can’t comment on how it works yet.

I knew I was in trouble when the thing had an AC adapter plug but no adapter included (Cheap.)

The thing has a two-into-one USB port, the idea being, if you need the extra power to run it off of whatever you’re hooking up to, plug both ports in for extra power.

I have a Macbook Pro. There are two USB ports. One on each side. Convenient. Well-designed.

    The cord is useless.

One, when I spend money on something that is allegedly powered by USB, I don’t want it to be, “kinda, maybe, spos’da, well, if you plug it in twice it will be.” I expect to get what is advertised.

Second, when designing the cord you have to use to make the thing work, try not to overlook a tiny little computer design called the macbook and macbook pro. Just a thought.

  3. IT IS AWESOME!

I can drop it, sit on it, get it wet, and it still works! All of the other more expesive mechanical drives always failed or broke, I’m talking wetern digital and the rest. This one gets it right!

  5. I like the product, except for the fact that it doesn’t sync. Every backup is a complete and overlapping back-up.
