Ofra Haza – The Prince of Egypt film clip – Deliver us

Sung by the late Israeli singer Ofra haza. Lyrics: [Egyptian Guards] Mud…Sand…Water…Straw…Faster! Mud…And lift…Sand…And Pull Water…And raise up…Straw…Faster! [Slaves] With the sting of the whip on my shoulder With the salt of my sweat on my brow Elohim, God on high Can you hear your people cry: Help us now This dark hour… Deliver us Hear our call Deliver us Lord of all Remember us, here in this burning sand Deliver us There’s a land you promised us Deliver us to the promised land… [Yocheved] Yal-di ha-tov veh ha-rach (My good and tender son) Al ti-ra veh al tif-chad (Don’t be frightened and don’t be scared) My son, I have nothing I can give But this chance that you may live I pray we’ll meet again If He will deliver us [Slaves] Deliver us Hear our prayer Deliver us From despair These years of slavery grow too cruel to stand Deliver us There’s a land you promised us Deliver us Out of bondage and Deliver us to the promised land… [Yocheved] Hush now, my baby Be still, love, don’t cry Sleep as you’re rocked by the stream Sleep and remember my last lullaby So I’ll be with you when you dream River, o river Flow gently for me Such precious cargo you bear Do you know somewhere he can live free? River, deliver him there… [Young Miriam] Brother, you’re safe now And safe may you stay For I have a prayer just for you: Grow, baby brother Come back someday Come and deliver us, too… [Slaves] Deliver us Send a shepherd to shepherd us And deliver us to the

  1. @PinkRangerVida: To answer your question, Moses’s mother wears a shawl over her head because it’s tradition that married Jewish women cover their hair.

One of the most beautiful movies DreamWorks ever made…

La voix d’Ofra Haza est tout aussi émouvante en Français qu’en Anglais, mais la voix Anglaise de Miriam est un peu forcée…

  4. כל כך עצמתי! so powerful

@Reeevon: That’s what I meant–the reason people wore those BEFORE religion. Thanks! :)

  6. @PinkRangerVida Not being very knowledgeable about those religions, I can’t say anything about the origins of their religious dress. However, as to the shawl she’s wearing in this clip, I don’t think, as far as I know, that it has religious significance, but rather a more practical purpose. It’s hot, it’s sunny, and the sand would get thrown up by the wind. The shawl would protect her face and help keep the sun off her. :P

  7. i agree it was sad…but it had to be done T~T poor baby Moses

  8. i cried when i was little every time she let the baby go

  9. @x3sweetpea3x The only problem is… is that it has been going on for… about 2000+ years now. And I doubt it will stop suddenly. :(

Why is Moses’ mother wearing a shawl over her head? I know it’s religious, but it seems a lot of Middle-Eastern religions (i.e. Muslims, Jews, and Hindus, who have a similar climate) do that. Is there a practical reason? And am I way off on the Hindu thing? You can tell I’m NOT a geographer. ;p

  12. Man this was a great movie, this intro was my favorite part. Ofra Haza’s singing always made me want to just cry!

  13. RIP Ofra Haza…

  14. @Tadicuslegion78 It’s funny. Whenever anyone makes this point about all cultures having blood on their hands, I never see mention of the continent wide genocide my country perpetrated. That is the slaughter of the Native Americans. It just doesn’t seem to come up much. I’m not arguing against anything your saying. Just came into my mind.

@x3sweetpea3x and also there was that whole you know HOLOCAUST THING??? everyone has had a dark time in history, the muslims are working through their’s now the christians had the inquisition and the massacres of the crusades, the Ottoman turks had armenian genocide, russians murdering jews, there might be one or 2 terrorists who are jews but that doesn’t mean the whole race is evil. like just because there are muslim terrorist doesn’t mean all islamic followers want the world blown up

    Fantastic. Absolutely fantastic.

  18. @RapStarsz The Jews aren’t terrorists…. the EXTREMIST muslims are terrorists (not all, I’m Jewish and I do believe that most muslims want peace). If you are referring to the blockade, the people were trying to get through a blockade that has been there for two years. They knew about it and didn’t stop when the Israelis told them to. Then they started stabbing the Israelis with knives and shooting them.. so the Jews defended themselves… and now you are calling THEM terrorists? *rolls eyes*

  24. I Love this movie, because it teaches you where your ancestors came from, and what they went through so we can can be free people. it also teach you that they trust GOD a whole a lot to get to the PROMISED LAND!!. It ALSO teaches you to trust GOD more often, or allowed GOD to become your LORD and SAVIOR over your life.

  25. But its still pretty good, no matter what.
