  2. Iknow the Dyson is a good machine as I have family who owns them.

However, I cannot review MY DYSON because the JERK who took my money over a month ago lied over and over again but never send the product.

Now, I am waiting for my money to come back.

  3. I really really wanted to like the Dyson. I read and researched extensively everything I could and was impressed by how passionate people were for the Dyson. My intent was to go to Sears to “kick the tires” and see what all the fuss was all about and then come home and order mine via Amazon.

Instead of the Dyson I came home with a Sears canister.

For roughly the same price or a little less, I got something that was better built, easier to use particularly with attachments and had more features (retractable cord, LED light). Normally the retail was $600, but with a $250 sale price I added a five year extended warranty matching the Dyson and still came in lower than the Dyson.

I have had a Kenmore canister for eighteen years and was ready for something new and different. I came home with the new Kenmore Intuition and felt it was far superior and now Consumer Reports agrees.

As much as I wanted to love the Dyson, I thought it was awkward and definitely designed by an engineer which is not necessarily a good thing.

I finally came to the realization that in eighteen years I never once wished I had an upright and felt if I purchased an upright would I feel the same way.

I was ready to jump on the Dyson bandwagon, due mainly to marketing and buzz and in the end I remained a canister guy.

I am only adding this review as to those who have not considered a canister, that there is a whole dimension of floor cleaning beyond the upright and there are much better vehicles to do so than the overpriced and clumsy Dyson.

BTW, the Dyson “canister” is terrible!

    Good luck.

  4. I don’t own this so I hope nobody gets to ticked off at me for writing this. Hopefully this will be help you decide. I always wanted a Dyson, but my wife grew up with canister vacuums, so off to Sears we went. This was about 5 years ago. We bought a very nice $350 Sears kenmore canister vac. It still works perfectly I might add. Last week I decided we needed a small vac with a spinning brush for light work on the weekdays when we don’t want to haul out the bad boy. I decided I wasn’t going to one of the big retailers because reading reviews on small vacuum cleaners does no good. Everyone is 50/50 either hate or love their little piece of junk. I looked up the local vacuum cleaner retailer in the phone book and off we went. He showed us some vacuums and we had a nice chat, and I noticed a bunch of vacuums tagged and lined against the wall. I said “oh, you do repairs as well?” His reply was “yes” and that the ones I was looking at all came in that day. There was maybe ten of them. To my huge surprise about 1/3 were Dysons. I mentioned something about the Dysons and he told me to follow him. We went back into the repair shop and WHOA, about 40 vacuums and 1/3 Dyson. He looked at me and said “Dysons are junk!! They’re junk”. He told me that if it weren’t for vacuum cleaners like Dyson he wouldn’t be able to stay in business. It’s just not Dyson mind you (me talking now). All the ones they sell at the big box stores really are garbage. I can understand if you can’t spare the money for a really good vacuum, but you can spare the money if you’re buying a Dyson. Really do yourself a favor and call your local guy. Help ease his/her manual work load by allowing them to make a profit off of you while working on your brothers Dyson. They need that balance.

He let me take a $300 Simplicity for a whirl and I think it made a Dyson move across the floor. Honestly, it was a Ferarri compared to the plastic Dyson. I’m glad I saw what I saw, and I hope this at least prompts you to go visit your local guy. Give him a chance to enlighten you. Vacuum cleaners are a necessary unfortunate evil and they are important for your family and your pets.

Here’s the beauty of this whole story. This guy carries the Simplicity line of vacuums cleaners, quite arguably the best vacuum cleaner in the world. It’s possible to pay upwards of $1400 for an upright. This guy pressured me in to a $69 cordless Eureka. I told him my budget was $300 for a serious stick vacuum. He said everyone loves this little Eureka so get it and find out. It’s junk but it works quite well, has a spinning brush, you’re more apt to use it and it only costs $69. What a guy!!!!

p.s. I am not a vacuum cleaner salesman and have never been one or sold a vacuum (only thrown them away)

  5. Do not purchase these products. I spent nearly $600 on this vacuum and it has been nothing but problems. Eventually, I tossed it. I’ve owned vacuums my entire life and I didn’t realize the canister needed changing and within seconds the motor burnt-up. Most sweepers simply shut-down once they heat-up. I called Dyson and all information was documented, I was asked about the canister being full, I told the truth, and was told that my warranty doesn’t cover the sweeper because I didn’t follow the instruction and that the info. was documented in case I contacted Dyson in the future. I can’t believe that a sweeper that costs this amount can be so easily destroyed without any bells or whistles alerting to the canister being full. Its hard to see inside the canister to begin with once it gets dusty.
